(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Over 6 thousand inmates have memorized the Quran, either partly or entirely due to the priority given to the Quran and prayers by the Prisons Organization.

Addressing the prison chaplains attending an educational course in Mashhad, Hojat-ol-Islam Tahami, director general of cultural and training affairs of prisons, said, “Besides the inmates, the staff of the prisons have also been keen on learning the Quran by heart.”

He referred to a national Quran competition to be held for inmates this month in Shiraz, and said, “Around 330 inmates will compete in 12 Quranic categories such as memorization, recitation and interpretation of the Quran, Quranic concepts and prayer, etc.”

Pointing to the educational course, he said one of the main objectives of the organization is to train knowledgeable chaplains. “The educational course for prison chaplains from all over the country was organized in line with this objective and for promoting the status of prayer in prisons.”
